scarusn. [L. See Scar a kind of fish.].
     A Mediterranean food fish (Sparisoma scarus) of excellent quality and highly valued by the Romans; -- called also parrot fish.  [1913 Webster]

OXFORD DICTIONARY

scarus, n. any fish of the genus Scarus, with brightly coloured scales, and teeth fused to form a parrot-like beak used for eating coral. Also called parrot-fish.
