     Combining forms designating fire or heat; specifically (Chem.), used to imply an actual or theoretical derivative by the action of heat; as in pyrophosphoric, pyrosulphuric, pyrotartaric, pyrotungstic, etc.  [1913 Webster]

pyro-, comb. form 1 denoting fire.
2 Chem. denoting a new substance formed from another by elimination of water (pyrophosphate).
3 Mineral. denoting a mineral etc. showing some property or change under the action of heat, or having a fiery red or yellow colour.
