CIDE DICTIONARY

narceinen. [L. narce numbness, torpor, Gr. : cf. F. narcéïne.].
     An alkaloid found in small quantities in opium, and extracted as a white crystalline substance of a bitter astringent taste. It is a narcotic. Called also narceia.  [1913 Webster]
