hyper-,  [Gr. "ype`r over, above; akin to L. super, E. over. See Over, and cf. Super-.].
  •  A prefix signifying over, above; as, hyperphysical, hyperthyrion; also, above measure, abnormally great, excessive; as, hyperæmia, hyperbola, hypercritical, hypersecretion.  [1913 Webster]
  •  A prefix equivalent to super- or per-; as hyperoxide, or peroxide. [Obs.] See Per-.  [1913 Webster]
