Adjective c has 1 sense

CIDE DICTIONARY

c,
  •  C is the third letter of the English alphabet. It is from the Latin letter C, which in old Latin represented the sounds of k, and g (in go); its original value being the latter. In Anglo-Saxon words, or Old English before the Norman Conquest, it always has the sound of k. The Latin C was the same letter as the Greek ce, and was derived, probably, through the French. Etymologically C is related to g, h, k, q, s (and other sibilant sounds). Examples of these relations are in L. acutus, E. acute, ague; E. acrid, eager, vinegar; L. cornu, E. horn; E. cat, kitten; E. coy, quiet; L. circare, OF. cerchier, E. search.  [1913 Webster]
"See Guide to Pronunciation, "  [1913 Webster]
  •  The keynote of the normal or “natural” scale, which has neither flats nor sharps in its signature; also, the third note of the relative minor scale of the same.  [1913 Webster]
  •  As a numeral, C stands for Latin centum or 100, CC for 200, etc.  [1913 Webster]
C spring, a spring in the form of the letter C.

CIDE DICTIONARY

j,
J is the tenth letter of the English alphabet. It is a later variant form of the Roman letter I, used to express a consonantal sound, that is, originally, the sound of English y in yet. The forms J and I have, until a recent time, been classed together, and they have been used interchangeably.  [1913 Webster]

OXFORD DICTIONARY

j, n. (also j) (pl. Js or J's)
1 the tenth letter of the alphabet.
2 (as a Roman numeral) = i in a final position (ij; vj).

j, abbr. (also J.)
1 joule(s).
2 Judge.
3 Justice.

DEVIL DICTIONARY

j

is a consonant in English, but some nations use it as a vowel -- than which nothing could be more absurd. Its original form, which has been but slightly modified, was that of the tail of a subdued dog, and it was not a letter but a character, standing for a Latin verb, _jacere_, "to throw," because when a stone is thrown at a dog the dog's tail assumes that shape. This is the origin of the letter, as expounded by the renowned Dr. Jocolpus Bumer, of the University of Belgrade, who established his conclusions on the subject in a work of three quarto volumes and committed suicide on being reminded that the j in the Roman alphabet had originally no curl.
