bovaten. [LL. bovata, fr. bos, bovis, ox.].
     An oxgang, or as much land as an ox can plow in a year; an ancient measure of land, of indefinite quantity, but usually estimated at fifteen acres.  [1913 Webster]

bovate, n. hist. a measure of land, as much as one ox could plough in a year, varying from 10 to 18 acres.
