     A suffix or terminal formative, used principally in biological terms, and signifying growth, formation; as, bioblast, epiblast, mesoblast, etc.  [1913 Webster]

1 an embryonic cell (erythroblast) (cf. -CYTE).
2 a germ layer of an embryo (epiblast).
